Draft Street Free Roll Picks: Saturday October 12th

It is Draft Street Free Roll Picks time and I have the picks for you right here.

Draft Street’s Free Roll is tonight, so get signed up and use our picks to your advantage.

Draft Street Free Roll Picks: Sleepers

C Tomas Plekanec, Montreal Canadiens – $6,745: The Habs mixed up their lines during a 4-1 Oilers win Thursday night making Tomas Plekanec relevant again. The gifted playmaker will center Alex Galchenyuk and Brendan Gallagher who have been on a tear to start the season (12 points in four games). I also think Max Pacioretty benefits from playing with Lars Eller.

RW Todd Bertuzzi, Detroit Red Wings – $3,440: Bertuzzi is a big sleeper for tonight’s set of games as he benefits from being moved on the Wings top line with Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk. Having a guy this cheap helps you in other areas

G Dan Ellis, Nashville Predators – $16,741: Ellis comes cheap if you want to go that way in net. Kari Lehtonen went down with an injury last night and Ellis ended up making 22 saves in a win against the Jets. Ellis is getting the start tonight against the Wild. Minnesota has had a hard time putting pucks in the net, Ellis could be worth a shot. Dallas has two straight wins coming in.

The Avs are 4-0 for the first time since the club moved to Denver and Patrick Roy backstopped them to a Stanley Cup in 96. He has seemed to rub off on Semyon Varlamov who has been one of, if not the best goalie to start the 2013-14 season. He’ll face a Caps team who can score in bunches – 12 in four games.(Getty Images)

Draft Street Free Roll Picks: Busts

G Semyon Varlamov, Colorado Avalanche – $21,385: I’m going against a hot goalie in Varlamov tonight even though he has a 1.00 GAA and .967 save percentage in three games this season. He is facing a high powered offense led by Alex Ovechkin and company. This will be the first time Varlamov faces his former Capital mates since being trade and I have a feeling he gets lit up.

LW, Bobby Ryan, Ottawa Senators – $12, 065: I wonder how many games Ryan will actually get to play with Jason Spezza? Ryan managed to get a couple points without him the other night, but tonight he’ll face a stingy Sharks team who have dominated opponents to start the season outscoring them 21-5. It’ll be hard for the Sens to score goals in the shark tank tonight.

C, Brad Richards, New York Rangers – $11,129: Richards will be without winger Rick Nash again tonight. The Rangers are already in tough against a red-hot Blues team. It’s game five of nine on the road to start the year for New York and they are coming off a 6-0 shutout in Anaheim. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were blanked tonight in St. Louis.

Draft Street Free Roll Picks: Picks

G Jaroslav Halak, St. Louis Blues – $22,182: Halak is a perfect 3-0 to start the season. He’s turned aside 73 of the 77 shots aimed his way (.948 save% and a 1.34 GAA). I like his chances to keep the streak going. The Rangers have been outscored 15-2 over their last two games. With no Nash, the struggles are expected to continue for New York. Halak is worth the price tag.

G Jimmy Howard, Detroit Red Wings – $19,446: The Wings have lost two straight. A banged up Philly team is just what the doctor ordered for Howard and the boys. The Flyers are without Scott Hartnell and Vincent Lecavalier, plus Claude Giroux is still looking for his first of the year. I like Howard to pick up a W at home tonight.

C Patrik Berglund, St. Louis Blues – $9,240: The Rangers have allowed 20 goals in four games and with Martin Biron between the pipes tonight I expect the Blues to score a couple. I know a lot of Ranger hate tonight. If not Berglund, grab Vladimir Tarasenko or Jaden Schwartz. That line has been hot to start the year and they were the best line for the Blues against the Wings on Wednesday.

RW Alex Chiasson, Dallas Stars – $8,624: The 23-year-old scored his third goal in as many games for the Stars last night. He has nine through his first 10 NHL games dating back to last season. It seems silly not to ride the hot streak.

LW Michael Grabner, New York Islanders – $9,891: Grabner has seven points in four games this year. This is another case of riding a hot streaky player. Him and Frans Nielsen have shown great chemistry together. The two have 12 points in four games.

Good luck, enjoy and hopefully these Draft Street Free Roll Picks help!
